Installation of mosquito misting devices is the fastest growing segment of pest control in America. These pest control systems are becoming more and more popular over the past couple of years because people have been worried about West Nile virus, among other diseases spread by mosquitoes. Many people see this system as a personal way to combat mosquito problems, especially in places where spraying has been reduced or stopped.
A mosquito misting system is a set of high-pressure tubes and nozzles placed around an area. It includes a pump with pesticide and reservoir.
It is easy to understand the working principles of this system for pest control. Mister nozzles reduce the spray to very small particles, 50 microns and less. They remain suspended for various lengths of times. The droplet size is 50 microns (about the same as half of the width of human hair). It takes about 3.5 to 4 minutes in still air for a particle of this size (half of the diameter of a person’s hair) to reach a height of 3 feet. Insecticide droplets are supposed to kill flying pests or mosquitoes that may be present in the atmosphere at the time. According to wind speeds, mists can last from one minute up to fifteen minutes and kill flying insects.
